Custom Cake Toppers Care Guide | How to Clean & Store

Lua & Co · How to clean & store

A little care.
A lasting keepsake.

Made for your moment. Kept for the memories.
A few thoughtful steps to look after your personalized piece.

01

Handle gently.

Support a sturdy base or edge, not delicate lettering.

02

Know your finish.

Follow your item’s instructions before choosing a cleaner.

03

Keep it protected.

A cool, dry place. A little padding. No heavy stacking.

Start with the material

Different finishes.
The same gentle touch.

Choose the material listed on your order or product page. Coatings, mirror backing, paint, and attached details can need extra care.

The instructions supplied with your individual item always come first. Not sure which finish you have? Send us a photo and your order number.

Acrylic & mirror finishes

Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth with light pressure. If your item’s finish permits it, lightly dampen the cloth with lukewarm water. Plain, uncoated acrylic may be cleaned with a small amount of mild soap, then wiped with a clean damp cloth.

Do not soak the piece or wet mirror backing, glued details, or unfinished edges. Gently blot dry with a soft cloth. Avoid scrubbing, paper towels, glass cleaner, alcohol, acetone, and abrasive products.

Natural wood & painted finishes

Lift surface dust with a soft, dry cloth or a very soft brush. Support the piece while cleaning and avoid rubbing painted or engraved details.

Do not soak, rinse, or scrub wood, and keep moisture away from painted or glued surfaces. If a mark will not lift gently, ask us for advice before using water or a cleaning product. Natural grain and tone can vary from piece to piece.

PLA & printed plastic

For decorative care, remove loose dust gently with a soft cloth. Only use a lightly dampened cloth on areas your item’s instructions allow, and let the piece dry fully before putting it away.

Keep it away from hot water, dishwashers, microwaves, radiators, and hot cars. A wipe-down is not a sanitizing method: do not assume a printed piece is suitable for repeated food contact. Contact us before reuse if food residue remains in the surface.

Glitter & delicate details

Support the base and avoid rubbing glitter, fine lettering, layered pieces, bows, or attached decorations. For loose-glitter or coated finishes, ask us before using any damp cleaning method.

Do not apply sealant sprays, glue, polish, or tape without checking with us first. Encapsulated glitter acrylic and surface-applied glitter are different finishes, so their care instructions may differ.

After the celebration

Made personal.
Put away with care.

From a wedding-day detail to a little one’s milestone, give your keepsake a safe place between its moments in the spotlight.

  1. 01 / Before you pack

    Clean. Then dry.

Follow the guidance for your material and let the piece dry completely. Do not seal away a damp item or store it with food residue.

  2. 02 / A little protection

    Wrap without pressure.

Use clean, soft, non-abrasive tissue or the original protective insert. Keep pieces separate so lettering and mirrored surfaces do not rub together.

  3. 03 / Its own little space

    Keep it cool & dry.

Store in a supportive box, away from direct sun, damp rooms, and heat. Do not bend, flatten, or stack heavy items on delicate shapes.

Too lovely to tuck away?

Let the memory stay on display.

A roomy shadow box or a supported shelf display keeps your piece visible without bending it. Keep it out of direct sunlight and avoid adhesive on the finished surface.

The little details

A few quick answers.

Can I put my piece in the dishwasher?

No—this guide is for delicate decorative pieces, not dishwasher-safe tableware. Avoid dishwashers, boiling water, and heat-based cleaning. Always follow the instructions for your individual item.

What if frosting is left on my topper?

Remove loose residue gently without scraping or bending the stem, then follow the cleaning instructions for that material. Do not leave food residue on a stored keepsake. If residue cannot be removed safely, or you want to use it with food again, contact us for item-specific advice.

Should I add a clear sealant?

Please do not add a coating or spray without checking with us first. It may change the finish or damage the piece, and applying a sealant does not automatically make an item suitable for food contact.

Can I keep it in a memory book?

Only if it fits without pressure, bending, or contact with adhesives. Do not press a dimensional piece flat. A protective box or roomy shadow box is often a better choice for fragile lettering and layered designs.
